Jordan life | Trees of Amman sidewalks
As part of Greater Amman Municipality’s plans to enhance the scene in the city, a new statute will be released to unify the trees planted on sidewalks of Amman. All Olive trees will be replaced with specific types of trees in the coming few weeks.
According to GAM current tress such as Olive and Ligustrum japonicum cause hypersensitivity in addition to the obstruction it cause to citizens. According to Dr. Zeid Hamzah and Dr. Ehsan AlJundi lots of people in Amman are suffering hypersensitivity caused by those trees.
Eng. AbdulHadi AlFalahat, Captain of Agricultural Engineers in Jordan said that moving Olive trees will cause a moral and tangible lose since all Jordanian are attached to this tree, while the mayor said that it is proven that about 75 – 80% of Olive trees can survive even after it is moved. Eng. AlFalhat suggests some clipping on the old trees and to apply the statute on tress that will be planted in the future.
I appreciate the efforts done by the municipality to make Amman look better, I agree on the fact that rooftops and outdoor displays are a mass, and I agree that Olive tress, even it is a holy tree; cause scratches on cars and make walking on sidewalks impossible but I believe there are more important issues that need immediate solutions, manly the streets.

“Olive tress, even it is a holy tree” I just want to mention that we don’t worship olive trees in Islam.. i don’t see any moral dilemma in removing the olive trees..
in our religion ideology.. practicality is the first priority.. Hence the olive tree is causing health problem.. then it is important to remove it..

Well no one said we worship it but people are attached to it since it was mentioned in the Holy Quran along with Fig, plus how sure we are that it cause health problems this the opinion of 2 doctors and it could be wrong.

People can’t walk or use the sidewalks so people walk on the streets… then cars come and hit them and then they die… Now you are telling it is not bad for health!!1

Wael, trees are not the only problem of Amman sidewalks they either damaged, or too tight or even don’t exist, anyway I hope this action will be the right thing to do.
