Umniah Umax vs. Orange ADSL
Umniah brought Wimax to Jordan through launching Umax, a wireless internet connection solution that will let you connect to the internet wherever you are as long as Umniah is covering that place, prices are the same but if you take into consideration, having the ability to connect from anywhere is a very big advantage, the only problem is the coverage, as far as I know Umniah is still falling behind.
The problem with ADSL is Jordan Telecom monthly fees, which is almost equal to the fees of the ADSL itself; the 128K from Orange costs 12JD’s (plus 16% tax) in addition to 9JD’s (again plus 16% tax), and even now with Uminah, which is not part of JT network, prices are the same, I mean why don’t Umniah offer the 128K for only 12++?
Anyway I haven’t tried the service yet, but I hope it’s something good.

Below is the campaign created by AdPro Jordan, I didn’t get the meaning of “Once again from Umniah” since this is a new service.

I’m keeping my eye on this. It’s still too early to plunk down cash, in my opinion, but this should be the first step towards other providers (read competition) adopting the technology.
I’m waiting to see how reliable and expensive the coverage is, and whether we will soon see faster speeds at lower costs. I’d love to cut out the middle man line costs (Jordan Telecom/Orange).

Well, let me state something, while orange is continuing to provide a very bad service, and those very high fees for stupid unnecessary stuff you should pay for. I guess Umniah should have a very good chance to prove her self, and I really hope it well.
and by the way, yes for a 128 connection it’s not that difference for the price, but when it comes to higher speeds, Umniah is providing a very good price, for e.g. 2M connection would cost around 30 JD’s per month, while the ADSL for 2M with Orange is costing 30 JD’s per month.
so Way to go Umniah.

I started this in November and paid for three months. It sucked from the get go, dropping out all the time for hours, even though the signal was typically strong. I kept complaining and finally they sent techs out to install directional antenna-modem on the roof of my building. Didn’t really help, but the service over a few months did seem to be incrementally more reliable. During the first month I saw about 50%-60% of the time there was no connectivity, slow connectivity for half the remaining time. During the 3rd month I noticed I could go a whole day with connectivity and about half that time it would be slowish. Around this time, after I’d had the service for a 3 months, they said they were bestowing 4 months of additional service no charge. I left the country for a couple months and just got back yesterday and couldn’t really use it, it was so slow. Time to start the complaint cycle again. In general I would say it was a rip off, but there were a couple of weeks right before I left where I would have given it good reviews. I use this service to telecommute to the US.

Believe me Wherever I go in Damascus the service is working very very Fine.
What I see of comments about Umax Umniah is a weak, I was going to buy the service once I get back to Jordan, But I prefer Now to use Dial-UP in Jordan till i get back to Syria.
It’s weird, Internet Service Must be so great in Jordan because of the friendship with USA, But I see that Syria have better service, and please Note that Syrian ISPs can not buy SERVERS or any equipments from USA companies because of bad friendship with USA.
It’s totally weird JORDAN.

It is weird Hazem, Jordan is an advanced country in terms of technology and internet, at on the Middle East level, plus introduced the internet very late, I was in Damascus last year, a friend of mine said that you can’t get ADSL in Syria cause the ISPs have certain capacity, and they were waiting the governmental ISP to increase its capacity so they can increase theirs, so I though how desperate Syria is, we were in an exhibition about websites and portals, but the exhibition didn’t have proper internet connection.
I guess in Jordan we can do some good stuff, but not all the way till the end.

Guys , Welcome to Jordan where the high quality for services is no service at all and even it is not all about Umax that Umniah is providing now it is about the JT itself and the level we are stooping to while the world from round of us is just goes for better and to let you know all something Batelco and Umniah will merge now as one Company, at the end Umax is still under proccesing and testing and as we used to do stuff over here we have to pay even to test stuff and after we just spend years suffering from the bad experince we got from the service we got finally we can say that we might get better service . Once last notice since when Umniah got stations to cover the mobile service where u just have to spend half of ur credit just to connect or trying to make a good call on ur mobile so it is clear they dont also have coverage for the new service that called Umax which need much more coverage

Yeahhm in Syria, ADSL is a major problem, because of that they Made the 3.5G because it’s quicker than getting ADSL, They are getting enough time to get ADSL working better and have more Capacities. and please take a note that 3.5G is different than what Umniah offer, WiMax.

I have been a subsciber to umax for 2 months now. I suffered a little only in the beginning, but then the service got much better. What I noticed that when Batelco has connection problems that reflects to umax subscribers too. Since Batelco is the internet provider for umax and umniah is the provider of the hardware. like two days ago the connection went very bad and slow, and I heared from ADSL subscribers and with Batelco they had the same problems too. And another note to you who have umax, stay away from the modem as far as you can it is very dangerous to your health and no body is telling you this info, I found it on the web. The modem is a powerfull transmitting device and can harm you. I use a wireless router in un-used corner of my house. Take care everybody

So wimax technology is very promising I think. What we are waiting is to end the monopoly of the JT (orange) in connecting to worldwide web. You know that all internet service providers connect through JT and are limited to what they get. If we have other connection choices then the internet will become much more less expensive than it is now. I have a friend in India who told me the total cost for his 1mbs line is around US$12 a month (in Jordan it costs around US$75 for the same. In egypt is costs around US$18 for 1mbs line. So the monopoly game played by JT is what makes internet prices high in Jordan. Don’t you agree?.

The only way is that I can reach a signal is by sticking my modem out of the window (not infront of the window) so that I can have the signal, yet, it’s still very weack and the speed is around 14kb/sec, while it should be around 200kb/sec, since I have subsicribed for the 2Mb service.
For anyone who is looking for a high speed internet, DO NOT buy this peace of shit, stick to ADSL, it’s MUCH better.

Hi,
You got 4 different readings in 3 minutes simply because you are experiencing what is starting to emrge in Jordan as UMax syndrome !!!!
The website http://resources.zdnet.co.uk/speedtest/ does not do any fancy stuff. It simply downloads a file of a known size and it tells you how much it took to do that. As for http://speedtest.net/ try different servers and you will get drastically different result. If you are fast enough, you can at least 10 different readings in your 3 minutes
Sometimes the website http://speedtest.net/ takes forever to load and after running the test, the result indicates that my line runs at around 900 Kbps !!!
Anyways, the next time you try http://speedtest.net/ try servers other than the preferred one and see how the results will change.
