A world with a Google-Yahoo alliance would be a better one

After bring an objecting observer, Google has joined Microsoft in hitting on Yahoo in an online cold war.

To me, Google is the best thing that happened to the online world, I can’t imagine an internet with it, and an alliance with Yahoo, if didn’t make things better, at least it will keep the greedy beast Microsoft away from the online world.

The thing I really hate about Microsoft is that they act like a mafia; they attempt to infiltrate any successful industry and do whatever necessary to dominate. I understand that business is tough, but it should be ethical as well.

I guess Microsoft will start producing condoms if they fail in the web, but again this will raise safety issues, after all we know Microsoft.

Reuters recently reported about the potential tie-up between the internet giants, according to their report, a Google-Yahoo alliance will give both companies more than 80% market share, which will leave Microsoft struggling with its live search service.

Yahoo was testing Google’s advertising system for two weeks, so as a start it will be an advertising deal, I can imagine that, but I can’t imagine a merger, each company has a different direction in terms of services, and I also can’t imagine that one would acquire the other.

But will such an alliance stop Microsoft from persisting the acquisition of Yahoo?

It’s obvious that Google is anxious about Microsoft’s plans of acquiring Yahoo, which will put Google face to face with a heavyweight giant that will benefit of a strong influence in the offline world, which Google doesn’t have.

I don’t believe that Google is stupid enough to believe that an advertising deal would stop Microsoft, which after the rejection of the offer decided to convince shareholders of Yahoo to approve the offer even if it was rejected by the board, so they won’t stop.

At the end one would wonder what does each of three musketeers have in their agenda, future will reveal.

  1. why not, I actually can imagine google acquiring yahoo.. having “different direction in terms of services” is actually a plus, this means they well complete each other services, on the other hand, ms online division msn/live is a lousy version of yahoo, so overall I do agree; it’s in the best interest of both yahoo and the people (us) if google acquired yahoo..

I actually posted a funny photo couple of months ago on what the result will be if ms succeeded with it’s acquisition plans:

hope it never happens, after all.. I’m a firefox/php guy..
